As an engineer, first and foremost, I love a challenge. The most enjoyable work we do is solving tricky problems for good people. My approach to any project is to ensure we understand the needs of our clients, that way we can come up with a smart, efficient and robust design to meet those needs.
Before I joined ACH in 1996 I worked in local Councils, this gave me great exposure to the inner workings of our public sector, and a deep understanding and appreciation of the public infrastructure across our city and the environmental challenges it must withstand on a daily basis.
Now with over 20 years experience, I lead the civil engineering team at ACH Consulting as one of four directors. My work here spans the three waters industry, as well as hard civil projects, and high-risk temporary works design. Through this ACH have become a go-to specialist resource for many local bodies, commercial developers and industry firms, with partnership arrangements including Auckland Council and Watercare.
I think when it comes to engineering in New Zealand, it's important to understand the context of our designs, how people will use them or interact with the environments they create or exist in. Good robust design should be specific to their purpose, constructible with the best outcomes for the surrounding environment, and ultimately made of appropriate materials for the space.
Engineering is my passion, my challenge and my drive. When I'm away from the office I enjoy to relax and spend time with my family, get out fishing as much as possible or watch cricket with my boys.
